Building JBoss AS 7.2 in Linux

At the time of this writing JBoss AS 7.2 is available only in source code form. You can follow these steps to build the product.

You will need a functioning JDK 1.7 installed. You don’t need Maven installed. It will be installed in the following steps.

Open a command prompt and go to where you want to download the source code, for example your Documents folder.

Then, clone the Git repository.

git clone

This will create the jboss-as folder and download the source code.

Go to the jboss-as folder.

Checkout the code with 7.2.0.Final-prerelease1 tag.

git checkout 7.2.0.Final-prerelease1

Run this command to download Maven 3.0.3 and build the source code.

The command will download Maven 3.0.3 and start the build process. It takes about 20 minutes to complete the build. Eventually, in my case, the build failed like this.

But, everything else seems to work fine. For example, try starting the server:

cd build/target/jboss-as-7.2.0.Final/bin

The server should start up just fine.
